What is Taiji (Tai Chi)?

Taiji consists of rounded, flowing, balanced movements that some have described as one of the “ultimate stress relieving tools”. These gentle yet dynamic exercises have been shown to increase flexibility and improve posture, balance and overall health and stamina.

Taiji utilizes the ancient philosophy of Yin-Yang and the Five Element Theory for its foundation and to establish its training principles. Hundreds of years of experience have shown that Taiji can improve one’s overall health, reduce tension, and help to alleviate a number of physical ailments. The same techniques that were once used for combat have proved to be effective as life prolonging, healing, and rejuvenating exercises.

There are many different styles of Taiji (Tai Chi) and a great number of empty hand forms as well as sword and spear routines. TaijiNature's training programs are primarily in Chen Style Taiji.

Why learn Taiji?

Taiji is a movement art that emphasizes smooth flowing movements, balance, and a calm and peaceful mind. It is a mind/body art that is often called meditation in motion. With regular practice,Taiji stimulates the central nervous system, relieves stress, helps to lower blood pressure, strengthens the immune system, enhances the elimination of wastes and the circulation of blood, and channels the flow of Qi through the body’s meridians. It strengthens muscles, bones, and joints, and improves balance and coordination. It also benefits our breathing, digestion, and blood circulation.

With a regular practice of Taiji, you can improve your health, fitness level, body posture, balance, flexibility, coordination, stamina, strength, endurance, and ability to focus.

The meditative movements of Taijii have the effect of significantly reducing stress, which is recognized today as a primary cause for many health disorders. Regular practice of taiji provides an enjoyable form of exercise that will assist you  in developing and sustaining health and well-being.

What is Qigong?

Qigong refers to the art and science of using breath, posture, movement, and/or sound to cleanse, refine, accumulate and circulate Qi in the body. These simple yet powerful exercises can help prevent illness and improve overall health and well-being.

Through the cultivation and regulation of the body, mind and breathing, our immune system is strengthened creating a state of health, vitality, and youthfulness. In addition, our ability to adapt to our external environment is improved. Qigong training can give us a deeper sense of inner peace and harmony.

What is Bagua?

Bagua is based on the theory of the eight trigrams that was used by the ancient Chinese to analyze directions, locations, causes and effects, and all the natural changes of the universe.

Bagua emphasizes circular movement. When practicing Bagua, we are always moving. Bagua uses movement as its foundation and transformation as its principle. The movements are always changing, spinning, and turning, while rapidly moving in circular patterns. The constant turning and spinning movements stimulate the joints and muscles to provide movement for many areas of the body that are not normally exercised. These movements also stimulate acupuncture cavities by compressing and relaxing the muscles around them, loosening stagnant energy, and allowing qi to circulate smoothly. Bagua concentrates on training the circulation of qi and emphasizes a calm and peaceful mind.

Why learn Bagua?

Bagua is good for those who are interested in improving their coordination, agility, flexibility, balance, leg and arm strength, fitness level, body posture, reflexes, stamina and power.

What is Xing Yi?

Xingyi is an internal style known for its dynamic and explosive movements. Xing, or shape, is derived from imitating the fighting movements of twelve different animals. Yi, or mind, is generated internally from the heart. Xingyi is an internal style which imitates the shapes of twelve animals and their inner characteristics. Xingyi manifests great and refined power.

Why learn Xing Yi?

Xing Yi is for people who would like to improve their focus, power, stamina, coordination, strength, balance, fitness level, endurance, and confidence.

From a health perspective, the movements of Xing Yi are designed for strengthening the five important Yin organs: heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, and spleen.

What Is Liu He Ba Fa (Water Style)?

Liu He Ba Fa (Water Style) is one of the major internal styles of martial arts. It was originally passed down from generation to generation to only a handful of gifted and chosen students.

Liu He Ba Fa literally means Six Unities and Eight Principles. It incorporates the qualities and strengths of the three internal styles of Taiji, Xingyi, and Bagua, yet is its own unique form of internal martial arts. Liu He Ba Fa utilizes the power of Xing Yi as its center, the stepping patterns of Bagua for its turning and spinning, and the neutralizing power of Taiji for its variations. Its movements resemble that of floating clouds and flowing water that is sometimes calm and sometimes surging. The movements are constantly fluctuating with clearly defined forward, backward, upward, downward, and lateral motions.

The entire form of Liu He Ba Fa is governed by the mind. Emphasizing the harmonious interaction between yin and yang, it requires the cultivation of both form and spirit, a balance of soft and hard, fast and slow, and a continuous rise and fall. It develops softness and gentleness combined with strength and vigor. For health and longevity, it provides a form of qigong - a Daoist moving qigong.

Why learn Liu He Ba Fa?

Liu He Ba Fa was primarily created to benefit health, strengthen the body, alleviate sickness, and increase longevity. It is an internal form that embodies Daoist philosophies and presents yin/yang theory - the central theme of Daoism. By maintaining a balance of yin and yang, health of the body, mind and spirit is realized. The simplest way to think of the benefits of Liu He Ba Fa is to think of bringing harmony to the mind, body, and spirit, as a whole. Like water, Liu He Ba Fa creates a powerful and strong, yet soft, force within us.

What is Liang Yi?

Liang Yi, also called Harmonized Opposites Boxing, is a dynamic form that combines elements of Fu Style Bagua and Taiji. The movements are balanced in a manner that promotes the development of the entire body.
